Biography
Emily has been providing psychological treatment and therapy to individuals for over 15 years of professional practice. Her therapeutic style is warm, grounded and authentic, and she brings a non-judgmental and practical approach to her work with clients. Emily believes that the therapy room should be the safest room in the world for the people that she sees. She brings compassion and the spirit of collaboration to her therapeutic work, with a commitment to delivering evidence-based treatments with clarity and creativity, to generate meaningful experiences that drive hopefulness and positive change.
Emily works with young people and adults across the lifespan, and her practice is LGBTQIA+ friendly. With extensive experience in a primary care setting, she is experienced at dealing with both the common issues and stressors of life as well as treating individuals with psychological symptoms and more complex, diagnosed psychiatric conditions. Her areas of expertise include depression, mood disorders including bipolar disorder, anxiety conditions, complex trauma, stress and adjustment issues, and support through life transitions. Emily will discuss your concerns and needs early in therapy to develop a shared understanding of your situation and goals and determine a plan to move forward together. She is happy to work with long term clients as well as those who are seeking short term help.
Emily will comfortably adapt sessions for those seeking structured and practical approaches, as well as those who need flexible support and unstructured time to be heard. She is trained in several evidence-based therapies, including CBT, ACT, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, and Motivational Interviewing. She also has specialised training in Schema Therapy, Imagery Rescripting for trauma and nightmares, and Interpersonal and Social Rhythm Therapy (IPSRT) for bipolar disorders. Emily also draws upon additional approaches to customise a plan for empowerment and change, accessing tools from mindfulness, narrative therapy, emotion focused therapy and skills training where indicated.
Emily’s background includes previous work in occupational rehabilitation, EAP services, residential aged care, psychological assessment and psychology education. Emily is a Board-approved supervisor and has extensive experience providing clinical supervision to intern and early career psychologists. She is also a sessional teacher at the College of Professional Psychology. In addition to her private practice, Emily consults as a rehabilitation specialist conducting psychological assessments for workplace injuries. Emily is an Associate Member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS) and a professional member of the Blue Knot Foundation.
